Professional Experience

D. Alexander (Alec) Smith began his practice in Los Angeles with the real estate department of Dewey Ballantine LLP and later Greenberg Glusker.  While continuing to practice, Mr. Smith earned his M.B.A. at the University of Southern California Marshall School of Business in 2006.

Upon moving to Austin in 2007, Mr. Smith was an associate with Drenner & Golden Stuart Wolff LLP. and later a founding partner of Smith & Light LLP.   In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Smith has participated in a variety of business ventures, from helping to launch a start-up venture capital firm to serving on the Board of Directors of established businesses.

Details of Practice

Mr. Smith’s practice focuses on representing owners and developers in all aspects of their business.  He has experience with a variety of real estate transactions and projects, including acquisitions and dispositions, financing, development, management and leasing, and across multiple product types, including office, industrial, mixed-use, retail and hospitality, as well as multi-family and single family projects.  Mr. Smith also helps clients with entity formation and related organizational and business governance issues.
